Dosage form: 

60 capsules in a PET, including leaflet inside the box.

 

Ingredients:

Senna, Myrobalans, Dried grape, Sweet almond oil.   

 

Introduction:

This medicine contains Senna dry extract with the scientific name of (Cassia senna) and some other herbs, which have strong laxative activity.     

 

 Indications:

Senna is an approved non-prescription laxative. It is used to treat constipation and also to clear the bowel before diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy. Senna is also used for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), hemorrhoids, and weight loss.

 

 Mechanism of action: 

Senna contains anthraquinone derivatives called sennosides. Sennosides stimulate the lining of the bowel, which causes a laxative effect. The other mechanism for laxative effect is realized by inhibition of water and electrolyte absorption from the large intestine, which increases the volume and pressure of the intestinal contents.   

 

 Other uses: 

In Iranian traditional medicine, this product is used to treat constipation, psychiatric disorders, and some skin abnormalities Such as skin rashes and pruritus.   

 

 Dosage: 

For laxative activity: 1-2 capsules per day.   

 

 Traditional uses: 

Unless otherwise prescribed, 1-2 capsules, 1-2 times per day.   

 

 Side effects: 

Bloating, and GIT disorders.  

 

 Interactions:  

It can reduce body potassium; hence it should be used with some precautions during usage of Digoxin, Diuretics, and Warfarin.  

 

 Contraindications:  

Ulcerative colitis, diarrhea, heart disease.  

 

 Cautions: 

Don't use senna for a long period of time.  

 

 Using during pregnancy: 

Restricted.   

 

 Using during lactation:

Restricted.
