Dosage form:

100 tablets in a pet with leaflet inside a box.  

 

 

Ingredients:

Chebulic  myrobalan, Cape aloe, Autumn crocus, Tragacanth gum, Cumin, Ginger, Mastic, Black pepper.   

 

 

Product description: 

Each tablet contains 100 mg dry extract of Autumn crocus equivalent to 0.5 mg of colchicine and it has antiinflammatory properties. So it is used to treat and prevent Gout disease, joint pain and other inflammatory diseases of bone. Also the presence of other components such as Aloe which is a pain killer choleretic, is useful in increasing the efficiency of the drug and reducing its side effects. 

 

 

Indications:

1-Gout disease

2-Backache, sciatic pains and other bones inflammatory conditions.

3-Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and joint pain.

4-Useful in some autoimmune disease such as Behcet’s disease and Vitiligo. In Iranian traditional medicine, it has been mentioned as a bad  temperament laxative. 

 

 

Mechanism of action:    

Colchicine blocks neutrophil-mediated inflammatory responses induced by monosodium urate crystals in synovial fluid and also inhibits urate crystal deposition.Aloe can inhibit COX-1/COX2 enzymes so anti-inflammatory properties can be seen through inhibition of thromboxane and other inflammatory factors biosynthesis.    

 

 

Dosage:

1- Acute gout attack, bone pain and osteoarthritis:  starting dose 3 tablets then take 3 tablets every 4-5 hours. Increase the dose gradually until pain relief, maximum dose is 6 tablets every 4-5 hours (24tbs/day). In case of diarrhea taper down the regimen until it is recovered. Keep the dose between 6-12 tablets under the supervision of physician. The treatment period is between 3-6 month according to the physician’s prescription.

2- Gout prophylaxis: take 3 times per day each time 2 tablets, under the physician’s supervision.

3- Auto immune disease and Behcet’s disease: Take 2 tablets 3 times per day under the physician’s supervision.   

4- Hepatic cirrhosis: take 2 tablets per day, 5 times a week.

5- Biliary cirrhosis: take  2 tablets 2 times per day.   Side effects:  Rarely myelosuppression, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, granulocytopenia, diarrhea, myopathy, neuropathy, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity and hypersensitive reactions.  

 

 

Contraindications:

Severe cardiac disorders, nephropathy, hypertension or any history of allergic reactions to any components.    

 

 

Interactions:

Vit B12, CNS suppressor medications, some categories of antibiotics such as clarythromycin and erythromycin can affect the toxicity of the medicine.  Loop diuretics decrease the efficiency of prophylaxis action.  Alcoholic beverages and antiacids may inhibit the action of the medicine.   

 

 

precautions:

1- In case of skin rashes, sore throat, fever, bleeding or abnormal bruising, fatigue, numbness or burning, consult your physician or pharmacist.

2- In case of relief of diarrhea and vomiting reduce dosage, or stop taking the medicine.

3- Do not use alcohol containing products at the same time. 

 

 

Using during Pregnancy: 

Class C.   

 

 

Using during lactation: 

Colchicine safety during lactation is not approved yet. The amount of secretion in  milk is still unknown.
