Dosage form:

200 ml syrup in a PET, including leaflet and a measuring cap inside a box.  

Ingredients:

Silkworm cocoon, saffron, mastic, cinnamon, indian cassia, clove, Roman leopard ’s bane, sandal wood,  Ambergris, Damascus Rose, musk willow.  

Introduction:

This syrup contains sedative and antidepressant herbs such as: Saffron, Clove, Sandal wood, red rose water in addition to silkworm cocoon.  Iranian traditional physicians have been prescribing this medication to improve the function of brain, heart and livers. It’s also helpful to excrete the phlegm.  

Indications:

1- Antidepressant, sedative, mood freshener.

2- It helps to improve memory. 

Mechanism of action:

Silkworm cocoon has a polypeptide called Sericin. According to studies this peptide is compatible with Schwann cells and can induce release of nerve fibers growth factor. It can increase learning abilities and cognitive functions. It also has an inhibitory effect on acetylcholinesterase so it can improve memory function.Saffron has active compounds such as Crocin and Carotenes. It has showed proper antidepressant effect in compare to Imipramine and Fluoxetine without any serious side effect. Red rose has a high antioxidant power because of significant amount of Ascorbic acid and Flavonoids.

Dosage:

Unless otherwise prescribed, dilute 20 ml of syrup in half a glass of water and take at bedtime.   

Side effects: 

None – known.   

Contraindications: 

In case of allergy to any component of medicine.   

Interactions: 

With other antidepressants and sedatives.   

Cautions:

1- In case of prescription with other sedatives, dose adjustment is required.

2- It should last sometime to reach the maximum efficacy. Please complete your treatment period and use your medication regularly.

3- The effectiveness of medication would improve, if it is used with borage, musk willow or willow distillates.  

Using during pregnancy:

No restriction known, but use under physician prescription only.  

Using during lactation:

It may change the taste of milk.
